What Mailing List? (TM) Version History Angel Babudro ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── This file contains the list of modifications to WML which are more than three months older than the current release. ───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1/19/96 2.8m Enhanced Lookup window: F2 (Find) and Individual options (on the Print & Select sub-menu) now have the same commands. You can change the Select, Bad Address, Omit, & Delete flags while in this window. 1/18/96 2.8k Corrected an import problem which had to do with updating duplicate entries. 1/12/96 2.8j When Selecting/Clearing entries individually using the "Individual" options on the Print/Select/Query sub-menu the symbol legend was in shadow; it has been "moved" to the video foreground. Abbreviations weren't being expanded properly when information was modified (although when a line was first typed everything worked fine). There were some inconsistencies in the display of command keys near the bottom of the screen which have been corrected, some "Help" topics were missing and have been added, and the help file has expanded a bit. Corrected: If you pressed "Ok" when creating a new file and no file name was entered, WML tried to create a file with no name which caused it to stop. Corrected an error with updating duplicate records while importing. Corrected a problem with using WML on networks (one of WML's files was locked which allowed only one station to use WML at a time). Corrected two problems with updating duplicates while importing: one caused WML to halt, the other is that entries were not being updated with the incoming information. Re-designed some of the Query routines to make them easier to use. Where there were individual menus for certain fields (such as date, city, state, etc.) there is now one option to choose entries by Field Contents. Much more flexible! Try it. 12/27/95 2.8i Selecting entries by State/Province was not working and has been corrected. Corrected an error with choosing PCL soft fonts while a mail file was open. 12/27/95 2.8h I forgot to include the Vocabulary file in the last release (this file is not required for proper operation, however, so it caused no problems) plus I goofed with some programming which caused Import, Export, and other functions which asked for a file name to crash (data files were unaffected). Corrected minor error: While re-indexing if you pressed Esc (cancelling the indexing) WML thought the file was still open but empty. 12/20/95 2.8g By request, I have added Language and Vocabulary settings on the General Preferences screen. As yet there is only one language (American English) and only two vocabulary sets (Standard and Ministerial) but I'm sure these will expand as people request it. 12/11/95 2.8f Corrected: WML was only allowing phone numbers in the format (###) ###-#### to be entered, even if the country settting was "International." 11/28/95 2.8e Corrected problems accessing older CONFIG.WDT and converting data files. This problem was discovered while trying to update a version 2.2b copy to 2.8c; it is unknown in which version the error was first introduced but it has been thoroughly corrected. :) 11/26/95 2.8d Minor cosmetic changes to printing and Names screens. 11/22/95 2.8c Corrected error in handling Canadian and International date formats. Added new "Groups In Use" window which appears next to the Groups Definition window, so you can see a summary of which groups are defined for an entry without scrolling through the group list. Corrected minor error in accessing group files: when a the file directory was changed and that directory contained its own group file (separate from the main group file in the WML.EXE directory) WML was not switching to the new group file. Corrected an error with the new Unsorted index which caused problems when an entry was edited (changed). Improved and simplified filter selection. 11/16/95 2.8b Corrected a problem with Global Field Replace, Export, and Import which resulted from the new Carrier Route field being added. 11/16/95 2.8a Added support for Carrier Route Sort. To enable, go to the Preferences, Data Entry screen to find the new Bulk Mail Features setting. Once this setting is enabled you will see a Carrier Route field on the Names data entry screen. On the Continuous and Laser Labels Preferences windows you will find a new toggle to print the Carrier Route Sort field on labels & envelopes. Added Carrier Route Sort to the import routines. Added new date fields on the Names Data Entry screen. Notice the new F5 key definition on this screen: F5 switches between the mailing counter & dates and new response counter, response dates, and birthdate fields. When response dates are displayed, the F4 key updates the counter & dates. Fixed minor problem with creating a new file: If you pressed the TAB key after entering the name of the file WML was replacing the file name with the first file name in the left-hand box. Corrected a problem with Selecting entries by phrase in comments which caused all entries to be Selected. 11/03/95 2.8 Improved Address index. WML was using the address (line #1) plus the zip code when indexing by address, which is not correct when using Carrier Route sorting. Now it sorts by zip code first, then by the street name, and finally by the street number. Corrected a problem with the Names data entry screen: if no printers were defined the Alt-P command was still available, and if you pressed Alt-P it would put you in a loop which could not be broken. Now Alt-P does not show up if no printers are defined. Removed the Zip Code index since it had become almost identical to the Address index. Added a new Unsorted index option which displays entries in record number order (that is, number 1 comes first, then number 2, etc.). Corrected a problem with the Zip/Postal Code Distribution report: the file name could "bleed" off the right side of the page if it was too long. 10/31/95 2.7z ASCII comma-delimited export was not placing quotation marks around text, causing problems if a field had a comma in it. Exporting to an ASCII comma-delimited file now places quotation marks around field contents. 10/19/95 2.7y Corrected minor bug with information window not processing your choice properly. Improved Names data entry: Now when you abandon changes (by pressing Esc then choosing "Abandon") WML reverts back to the data which was in the window previously. 10/17/95 2.7x Minor correction to Help window: a mouse command followed by a keyboard command caused the mouse command to be repeated & the keyboard command to be ignored. Improved information windows. Among the improvements, now you can use the Tab and BackTab keys to move between available buttons and press ─┘Enter to choose the highlighted button. 10/13/95 2.7w Changed: Ctrl-End was erasing the current field (rather than going to end of file). Now Ctrl-D and Ctrl-Del erase the field; Ctrl-End goes to the last entry on file using the current index. Corrected problem with importing another WML file which caused error #64 after you chose a file. Added new Global Field Replace function on Print-Select-Query Actions menu. This new function lets you change the field contents for All or just Selected entries in the open file. 09/27/95 2.7v Corrected rare error which could happen when a new entry is created then Alt-P is pressed. Corrected import problem which happened if Import Duplicates Rule was set to "Update" (on Pref/Gen'l screen) and an entry with a duplicate address but a different name was imported. WML couldn't find the existing record because the names didn't match. 09/25/95 2.7u Corrected: Envelopes were not print return address (this bug just entered WML in version 2.7t) Corrected error with choosing a 4-character directory off the root in the File Window (e.g., a directory named \WML worked, whereas \WML2 did not). When printing all Selected entries WML was asking twice whether to updates Times Mailed & Last Mail Dates. Corrected minor problem with entering and displaying negative numbers. 09/21/95 2.7t Minor enhancement: WML now remembers the previous return address used and defaults to that one the next time you access this menu. Minor correction: When printing PCL (laser) label sheets the starting row & column were not being displayed nor input properly. 09/19/95 2.7s Corrected: First Name field was not being set to proper length on new entries. WML now remembers the previous printer, form type, and label type used and defaults to it the next time you access this menu. 09/18/95 2.7r Corrected phone book problem which caused WML to crash if alternate phone numbers were included. 09/15/95 2.7p WML now remembers which printer, form type, and label type you last used and presents it as the default. 09/15/95 2.7n Corrected a bug which could cause WML to crash on the Names screen (this was just introduced in 2.7m). Added F1/Help command to the Groups Definition Window. 09/13/95 2.7m Corrected minor problem on Names screen: while on City field pressing F1 gave Help instead of displaying all cities which match the zip/postal code. Changed the way the last mail dates are handled: you may now access a blank date field (it used to skip over them). Corrected command key display problem when Groups window was open. 09/11/95 2.7k IMPORTANT UPDATE: All users of WML version 2.6k (roughly) through 2.7j should immediately install this update. A bug was corrected which caused a file to vanish if you used the "Rename" button on the File Window. 09/08/95 2.7j Corrected minor problem on Names screen: you couldn't erase a date field (i.e., make it blank) after a date had been entered in it. Corrected problem with international postal codes: if numeric they were being interpreted as US zip codes. Corrected error printing Canadian addresses with home country set to USA: WML wasn't printing "Canada". 09/06/95 2.7i Corrected problem with selecting scalable (PCL 5) fonts on the Printers Preferences screen. Added Instant Print command to Names data entry: press Alt-P to print the entry displayed on the screen. The Restore routine has been updated. You may now restore from any drive/path to any other drive/path. 08/29/95 2.7h Corrected problem with using a mouse on some numeric fields, such as on Envelope Preferences screen. Corrected a bug with entering new entries which caused WML to re-index the open file twice and then halt with error #199. 08/28/95 2.7g Corrected minor problem with entering zip codes. Corrected minor mouse problems on the Names screen. Corrected problem with mouse cursor disappearing on some Preferences screens. 08/26/95 2.7f Corrected minor problems on the Names Data Entry screen: 1. From the zip code field WML always advanced to the city field, even if you pressed the UP arrow. 2. If the Country Setting was USA or Canada you could not access the country field if it contained data. WML now accesses the country field if it contains data (otherwise it is skipped). 3. The new method for entering phone numbers in their proper format had a bug which caused WML to crash. I goofed with the Export routines! WML has been asking which fields to export, however, only the Ventura Publisher format actually used what you selected. All export routines are working properly now. 08/23/95 2.7e Corrected these bugs in the Import section: 1. If you entered a file name complete with path WML would bomb. 2. The File Window was incorrectly displaying the "Help", "Delete", and "Rename" buttons. 08/22/95 2.7d Corrected quirk in saving import definitions file: WML was dropping the period (.) between the filename and extension. Corrected problem with loading import definition file: WML was getting the path name wrong which caused it to bomb with error #64. Corrected problem with storing the path name of the file in use when WML is ended. You will now see WML display the full file name at the top of the screen. Corrected laser labels printing problem where the last line of labels would not print because the top margin setting was also being applied to the bottom margin. Updated Canadian Provinces abbreviations Moved "USPS Guidelines" option from Preferneces, Data Entry screen to Pref, General screen. Added "Home Country" to Preferences, Data Entry screen. Until now, a setting of International printed whatever was in the "Country" field and was not able to figure out whether to put "USA" or "Canada" below an address. Added mouse support to the File Open window. Enhanced the keyboard input routine to provide formatted fields (e.g., phone number and date fields). 08/01/95 2.7c Corrected an error which occured if you entered an address line which was over 21 characters long and a zip/postal code which was more than 7 characters (such as a 9-digit U.S. zip). WML was incrementing the Times Mailed counter and updating the Last Mail Dates for entries which were Selected but did not print due to incomplete address information. It now only updates those records which actually printed. 07/28/95 2.7b Added disk drive change feature to the File Window. You may press Alt-V or go to the Disk Drive box and press ─┘Enter to pop up a menu of disk drives. 07/26/95 2.7a Added a new option on the Print/Select/Query sub-menu under "Actions" entitled "Process using Import Technique". This option will process all of the Selected entries using the Smart Import Technique defined on the Data Entry Preferences screen (use F1/Help on this screen for more details). Corrected a problem with the file name input window (used when importing & exporting) which caused WML to report that the file did not exist. 07/18/95 2.7 Enhanced Names screen: When adding new records if you pressed PgUp WML would go to the bottom of the file. Now it jumps to the last record which was displayed on the screen, so if you press F7 to save a new record then realize you made a mistake, you can press PgUp to jump to that entry. Corrected problem with ABBREVS file which caused an error window to appear on the DE/Names screen. Corrected display within certain windows which was off by one space. Added DECwriter 500i/520ci printer driver. Corrected problems with the Phone Book. All columns line up properly, a bad font choice is noticed, and an error which caused WML to halt has been fixed. If environment variables TMP or TEMP were set to an invalid path you could not open a file. WML now checks for validity and modifies the path if necessary. 07/05/95 2.6y Corrected minor bug in look-up window when all entries fit in the window which caused the cursor to jump to the first entry after every operation. Now it remains on the chosen entry. 07/02/95 2.6x Minor updates to various routines, mostly cosmetic. Corrected problems which may have happened for folks using the DOS SHARE.EXE utility which caused error #70 to occur. Enhance the "Information has been changed" window to allow you to return to whatever you were doing. 06/26/95 2.6w Corrected problem with the File Window: it was allowing the open file to be deleted which caused WML to crash. Corrected problem with using mouse to click on commands listed near the bottom of the screen. 06/20/95 2.6v Corrected export routines: ■ Comment 3 was listed twice ■ Last Mail Date 3 was missing ■ Error 64 occurred after defining fields to export 06/20/95 2.6u Corrected problem with creating the first .WML file in a directory. 06/14/95 2.6t Corrected problem with Import & Export routines which caused WML to crash after the file was specified Corrected problem with entering & changing file descriptions in the File Window 06/13/95 2.6s Corrected errors on File/New if you pressed Esc, and on File/Open and File/New if you selected the Cancel button 06/12/95 2.6r Removed "Directory format" option on Pref. General screen since it is no longer needed with new file window Corrected problem with File Selection Window moving between windows very slowly. Corrected problem with Help function creating incorrect files WMLHX0 and WMLHX1 (very minor; just took up about 7k extra disk space). 06/09/95 ── 2.6p Verions 2.6m and 2.6n would not let you create a new file Corrected error which locked you in a loop if you asked for help while in the File Selection Window. 06/09/95 ── 2.6n This release corrects many of the errors that were in beta test 2.6m, especially with the new File Window. release There are also some other errors (such as Help/File and certain other help topics) which were corrected. 06/05/95 ── 2.6m Corrected problem with Canadian entries which caused beta test the file to be re-indexed and then WML crashed. release WML was not clearing country field if it was "US" (as opposed to "USA"), now it clears either one. Improved import function to do a better job of "cleaning up" entries while importing Corrected error which occurred if you imported an ASCII file then went to the Names screen. Corrected error which occurred when the data directory was different from the WML.EXE directory and F1 was pressed or Help, Index was accessed. Released 2.6k with an error in the screen message file (WML.MSG), causing WML not to run! :( First release with a new File Window, giving access to any directory from within WML. 06/02/95 ── 2.6k Expanded Query-By-Date to a range of inclusive dates (rather than a single date). Corrected error which sometimes caused WML to re-index the file twice then crash. Corrected problem with using "." or ".." to specify the data directory at start-up. Corrected a simple "typo" which prevented the printing of laser labels. 05/31/95 ── 2.6j Corrected problem with mouse disappearing on the Print Phone Book options menu if you only had one printer defined. Enhanced several information displays. I realized that changing the Back-up & Restore options to "Copy Files" in 2.6g confused some folks, so the description is now "Back-up & Restore". Corrected error with printing the Order Form, Site License, and Update form from the Help menu. Corrected Phone Book problems Improved handling of clicking on toggles on the Names screen: you need only click once and the cursor no longer moves to the toggle field. 05/19/95 ── 2.6i Alert tone (selected on Pref/General screen) now sounds when a zip code has more than one city matching it, to call the user's attention to the menu of cities Corrected some minor quirks on Names screen 05/16/95 ── 2.6h Corrected error with context-sensitive help when you access the same help screen twice in a row A new "Index" button on help windows lets you jump to the help index Corrected problem with Help Index which happened when all filters were reset. 05/15/95 ── 2.6g If "Start on DE/Names screen" is enabled (on the Preferences/General screen) WML will now jump to the Names screen upon opening a file - I had programmed this to happen only when the programme was first started. Consolidated the Back-up and Restore functions (on the File menu) into a single "Copy" item, then changed "Re-index" to be letter "R" and "Import" to be letter "I" on the menu. 05/13/95 ── 2.6f Corrected error which occurred if you pressed F7 (Save) without changing any of the displayed entry's data Improved function key display on the Names screen - it was showing PgUp & PgDn at times when they were not possible (such as the top & bottom of file) Corrected minor error with displaying phone numbers Corrected error with changing key information in an entry (name, company, address, or zip) which caused a re-indexing error (introduced in version 2.6d). Corrected problem with clicking on some function keys while using data entry screens. 05/07/95 ── 2.6e Corrected these problems: ■ File/Open command said "Bad path name" ■ If no laser printer was defined the Preferences/ Envelopes option was inactive rather than the Laser Labels option (introduced in 2.6d) ■ If you set a filter (or combination of filters) which had zero matching entries WML would bomb. ■ With any filter activated pressing F2 (Find) on the Names screen would bomb WML with error #52. ■ Entering a file name on the DOS command line without the ".WML" extension caused WML to be unable to locate the file. 05/05/95 ── 2.6d Improved speed of moving through a file with PgUp/PgDn Slight improvement to DBF import routine - if you had DBF files which would not import, try them now Corrected problem with specifying path at start-up Up to now if a file was open when WML was last ended WML opened the file for use when it started. Now it also goes directly to the DataEntry/Names screen. Corrected an error with DBF file import which caused WML to crash with the message "Internal error" if the DBF file had more than 50 fields. WML can now handle up to 100 fields and an error message is displayed if the import file goes over this limit. Added ability to read DBT (memo) file associated with a DBF file while importing. WML will import as much of the memo as will fit in the comment area. Split Preferences/Other screen into two screens: Data Entry and General. On the Data Entry screen is a new option to specify whether WML should automatically go to the DE/Names screen on start up. Redesigned help system: ■ screens now appear much more quickly ■ the mouse works properly on the Help Index ■ the Help Index menu stays on the topic you last chose within a session 04/24/95 ── 2.6c Enhanced Export routines: You may now specify which WML fields to export. I also corrected a problem with the Ventura Publisher ASCII file export. Corrected problem in fixed field length definition Corrected problem with accessing import/export definition files from another directory or drive 04/17/95 ── 2.6b Names screen no longer goes to the 2nd & 3rd date fields unless the one above is filled. Changed Actions sub-menu under the File Print/Select/Query menu: Had the option "Clear Omit flag of selected' but once entries are Omitted they cannot be selected, so this option made no sense. Changed it to "Clear all Omit flags" so it now works on the entire file. Changed Print/Select/Query Individual window: if you tried to select a record which was flagged as Bad or Omit WML would not flag it for printing. Now it gives a message asking if you want to clear the Bad/Omit flags and select the entry for printing. Completed ASCII fixed-field-length file import routine I left some debugging statements in the "Smart" import routines in version 2.6, so if you had the Import Technique set to one of the "Smart" options and you tried to import a file WML would have paused every time it manipulated the company name. This has been corrected and completed - everything works properly now. Added Data Entry/Messages screen on which you may define messages which will be printed on every envelope or label in a batch (e.g., "Address Correction Requested"). Only the data entry screen is in place so far. In the next version look for message positioning options on envelope & label Preferences screens. 04/01/95 ── 2.6a Added ability to Select entries by a range of zip codes (instead of just one code) Expanded return addresses to 5 lines (instead of 4) Corrected bug which occurred if ZipCodes.WDT existed but was empty and ZipCodes.WIX did not exist (programme would crash with message "Error 11 occurred in module MISC") 03/22/95 ── 2.6 When importing WML used to inform you of entries which contained potentially bad zip/postal codes. Now it tallies these entries, flags each of them as Selected to Print (so they may be easily reviewed), and informs you when the import is finished. Corrected error which happened if Esc was pressed during re-indexing. Smart Zip was only working on USA & Canadian addresses. It now functions for International addresses as well. Internal printer fonts were being displayed even if they were not available in the orientation needed. HP DeskJet, DeskJet Plus, DeskJet 500, and DeskJet 500C print envelopes in Portrait orientation; WML had been assuming landscape orientation. Support added for HP DeskJet 500-series, DeskJet 320/310, and DeskJet 1200 printers. When creating a new file WML no longer re-indexes group and abbreviation files. Corrected memory problem which could crash WML or lock the computer whenever a disk file list was displayed. Added new Help/Files & Memory screen Several screen enhancements and other minor updates Corrected problem with importing which could cause the WML to crash or lock the computer if records did not have a consistent number of fields. Corrected Smart Name import technique - was splitting first name into first/last components even if the surname was already defined. Lowered registration price to $49. 03/01/95 ── 2.5w Added Epson LQ-570/1070 printer support Enhanced certain messages and "intelligent" features Bundled US Zip Codes Data Base with registration 02/08/95 ── 2.5v Corrected Canon BJ-10 line spacing & font list Corrected bar code printing on dot matrix printers (I had forgotten to tell WML which printers were capable of printing graphics!) Added Canon BJ-200 and Epson LQ-510 printer drivers Corrected dot matrix printer problems with certain fonts and operations Added logic to limit bar code on dot matrix labels when width of label is too narrow: ■ If label is less than 3-3/16" (80mm) wide auto 11-digit expansion is turned off. ■ If label is less than 2-5/8" (65mm) wide bar code is limited to 5-digit zip. 02/01/95 ── 2.5u Corrected return address label printing problems 02/01/95 ── 2.5t Corrected error in bar code Correction Character calculation which occured if sum of zip code was a multiple of 10 Corrected error with last two mail dates which caused the default values to be wrong when editing them. Added ability to begin laser labels at a specified row/column 01/28/95 ── 2.5s Updated import to allow symbols in international phone numbers and warn if an entry seems to contain a bad zip code Corrected Names Data Entry zip code entry - was looking up U.S. State abbreviation for non-U.S. entries 01/27/95 ── 2.5r Corrected indexing problem introduced in 2.5p (oops!) Minor enhancement to Query - lookup now starts with the last entry added or changed Added ability for Names Data Entry and Import functions to filter out a country name of USA or Canada since WML automatically determines these. Improved "Smart" import technique Corrected error which happened if loading an import definition and you specified the entire file name instead of just the drive and/or path. 01/27/95 ── 2.5q Special test release - not for distribution. 01/21/95 ── 2.5p Cosmetic improvements to Help/Summary & Help/About screens Corrected phone number display for US and Canadian entries with Country Setting is "International" 01/20/95 ── 2.5n Thanks to input from sysop Gerald Himmelein the following bugs were fixed and new features added: Corrected: Was not removing trailing spaces from the Surname field. Corrected SHARE violation with File/Back-up and File/Restore functions (affected networks and some Windows users). 11/15/94 ── 2.5b Changed impact (dot matrix) continuous label printing so that it closes the printer port after printing a test label in case a network or other spooled printer is used. 11/12/94 ── 2.5a Names look-up window now reflects chosen index (if Company Name sequence is active, company name shows first, etc.) Improved dot matrix label spacing 11/10/94 ── 2.5 Updated ASCII import to allow either CR or LF to signal the end of a record, to allow international characters, and to allow quotes & commas within quotation-bounded fields. First release with working WordPerfect import.
